I have finished my socks! These only took me half a year, between the tiny yarn that has a terrible habit of burring onto itself, and university taking my time.
And I finished a chapter of Posh Boy! Just waiting on my beta.
I am on Ravelry! We're already friends, I just checked. I'm SherrinfordH over there.
It's a tube sock, but with a 3x3 rib that moves one stitch every 6 rows. It gives the cool spiral effect but also adds enough stretch that the heel curves without issue! It's my first time doing a tube sock that worked out. I've got giant feet and ankle problems, so often tube socks tend to look wonky and bunch up on the front of my foot. These went great! They're on my Rav if you want the pattern.
I worked them toe-up, TAAT, magic loop, and did my own toe and cuff (short row toe, cuff I just shortened because I was ready to be done.) They would have been remarkably simple knitting if I'd just had better yarn!
LOL - that's why I use the same pseud everywhere, otherwise I'd lose track of myself.
High 5 - I'm a TAAT, toe up, ML kind of person myself. I like that spiral rib business a lot. I'll have to try them, only I'll probably put in a short row heel, because tube socks always get eaten by my shoes.
I lose track of myself constantly. It's frustrating but also the last thing I need is for my IRL life to dive too deep into my fandom life. I have conservative family members with too much influence over the rest of the family. (Christmas was a fun balancing act.)
Sympathies on the tube sock drifting. I got sock garters specifically because it doesn't seem to matter what sort of sock I wear, they bunch up under my arch. It's the garters, or I wear high-tops and tight-lace enough that my socks can't slip.
They look great! I'm a crocheter myself (Nagaem1209 on Rav), and have never done a pair of socks - seems like the options for patterns are very hit-or-miss. One of these days, though, I'll probably do it just to say I've done it. :)
I thought about crochet socks but I think I'd have to do slipper-socks. Crochet's stitch type means that in order to have stitches small enough for socks, you'd be crocheting for quite a while.
On the other hand, while I'm bi-stitchual, I find myself with far less patience for crochet than I do knit work, so you'd probably be the opposite. XD
I'm gonna friend you on Rav! I love seeing others' projects.
Honestly, it's some random acrylic yarns from a charity shop. About 90% of my yarns are bought second hand, which is great for my wallet but not great for identifying what I've got, unless I magically get yarns with the bands still on.
I went ahead and friended you on Rav! I totally agree about the patterns. I used to be active on the forums, but not so much anymore. Now I mostly use it as a pattern obtainer/tracker/yarn stash inventory. I find the private sections much more useful.
I hear ya - I remember what Uni yarn budgets were like! (...back in the dark ages)
I'm on the other side of it - more yarn than I have time, or comfortably functioning wrists, to knit up. My RL BFF's mother recently passed, and she was a yarn store owner; so I'm helping BFF figure out what to do with the yarn and being paid in... yep, yarn. I may never, ever knit it up, but it's up there in the closet where I keep all the yarn away from mice and moths. (Die, you little bastards!)
I recently adapted a knitting acronym for fic readers - FABLE (Fic Acquisition Beyond Life Expectancy) - based on the SABLE (Stash...) and the FB group I'm part of found it hilarious. :D Perhaps I can knit while I read fic, and whittle away at both conditions!
I've got both FABLE and SABLE going on, mostly because I recently acquired several charity-shop jumpers that I'm going to unravel and use, and I found several fic recs on here! My "marked for later" list on Ao3 is giant. :D It's a good place to be.
Those are lovely! I made my first pair of socks this year. I went for ankle socks because I am impatient and didn't want to take the time to knit a long top for them.

Date: 2018-12-27 08:50 pm (UTC)How did you do them? Toe-up? Top-down? TAAT? Are you on Ravelry? I'm Tripleransom there also.
How is the heel done? I don't see a turn. Are they tubes, or is it some exotic technique? (I'm a sock knitter myself, in case you hadn't guessed)

Date: 2018-12-28 08:15 pm (UTC)I'm on Rav as the same old PlantsAreNeat, but I haven't been updating over there really at all. I just log on to surf when I want a pattern.
I've been knitting my kiddo some thick boot socks for Xmas, so I guess I could post those...
