Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Characters: Sherlock Holmes, John Watson, Mycroft Holmes, Molly Hooper, Mike Stamford, kid!lock - Character
Summary: "How on earth did you get here little man?" he inquired. The little boy just huffed as though John had said something very rude and repeated himself: "Can you draw me a heart?"
Despite being tagged slash, this is a perfect Le Petit Prince adaptation with Sherlock as the Little Prince. So lovely, soft, and dreamlike.
The Secret Identity of John Watson (27714 words) by scifigrl47
Chapters: 3/3
Fandom: Sherlock (TV)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Sherlock Holmes & John Watson
Characters: John Watson, Sherlock Holmes, Mycroft Holmes, Anthea (Sherlock), Greg Lestrade
Summary: Taken out of context, John Watson leads a terrifying life. You have to wonder what those poor women he dates thinks of it, especially if John decides to try keeping one away from Sherlock, and Sherlock decides that it'd be best if he could get rid of her. After all, Mycroft's taught him a thing or two about removing potential 'problems.'
One of those fics where you think you're going to dislike the premise, but then it turns out to be hysterical. Pre-slash but not slashy enough to go under the slash tag.

I love this fic. It's a bit sad but mostly funny, and the follow-up is just as good. John is so casually badass sometimes...
John Just Can't Catch a Break (2009 words) by Loopy456
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Sherlock (TV)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: John Watson, Sherlock Holmes, Greg Lestrade
Summary:The first time, it’s funny. Of course, the fact that he spends most of his time chasing around after Sherlock Holmes means that whatever gods govern the universe have decided that putting crime in his path is only right and just. John's trying to get home after a long day at work, so why won't crimes stop bloody following him everywhere he goes? And why can't Sherlock buy his own bloody milk for once? Written for a prompt on Kink Meme.
This is a simple look into the Life of one John Watson, and I found it immensely amusing.

I'm really confused about how to put this one, because it's poly, and I don't want to make another category. This is wonderfully written, and describes the complexities of a poly relationship between three people of differing sexualities with a lot of respect for the subject. It's a wonderful read.

Check blog for update schedule; I update a bit sporadically due to work and how much time writing this monster takes! The Bone Fiddle (61167 words) by Vulgarweed, htebazytook
Chapters: 13/13
Fandom: Sherlock (TV), Sherlock Holmes & Related Fandoms
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Characters: Mrs. Hudson, Sally Donovan, Mycroft Holmes, Molly Hooper, Irene Adler, OCs, Greg Lestrade
Series: Part 1 of The Bone Fiddle
Summary: Appalachian AU! In November 1973, Vietnam vet John Watson returns to his family's old home in Arthel County, West Virginia, deep in coal country. His low expectations include recuperation and boredom. Instead he finds a ruined landscape, a series of grisly murders, and one of the world's weirdest neighbors. Warnings/content: Some violence. Explicit sex. Tobacco-chewing. (Not all at the same time.) Huge thanks to beta reader bethbethbeth. Best Original AU Winner of the 2014 Holmsies! The Bone Fiddle Fanmix! Music is the heart and the spine of this story, so here is over two hours of it. Traditional Appalachian music, period-appropriate rock, and atmospheric alt-country. All the murder ballads mentioned in the story are here. Beautiful cover art by songofthecuckoo. Beautiful cover art by bluebellofbakerstreet
This is another that I was iffy about reading, because making Sherlock Holmes an American never really clicks in my brain. This, however, does it with a lovely sensitivity for the original canon and the Appalachian culture.
Shatter the Darkness (Let the Light In) (109683 words) by MojoFlower
Chapters: 23/23
Fandom: Sherlock (TV)
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson, Sherlock Holmes & John Watson
Characters: Sherlock Holmes, John Watson, Mike Stamford, Mrs. Hudson

But then he discovers a lamp and finds himself in the dangerous riptide of an enigmatic man whose very existence is unbelievable, murder charges against his sister, and the growing pains of feeling alive once more.
Heed the tags, but most of the trigger stuff is vaguely mentioned in past tense. This is gorgeously written, with an inside look at a complex dynamic that I absolutely love. Also: Sherlock belly dancing. You want it. You need it.

Fandom: Sherlock (TV), Sherlock Holmes & Related Fandoms
Rating: Not Rated
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson, Sherlock Holmes & John Watson
Characters: Sherlock Holmes, John Watson, Greg Lestrade
Summary: It was a ring worn on his third finger, the metal band looking heavy and cold against the delicate digit which bore the adornment's moniker--the ring finger, a place reserved for this mark of fidelity long since standing in forgotten tradition. And John Watson, for the life of him, could not remember when first his best friend wore it.
This is a genre I like to call "oh shit, I think I'm married."

My little brother, emotive, passionate and sensitive; pirate, dancer, lover of fairy tales. I believe he saw university as a second chance. He wanted to step into their world. He joined the fencing team, the orchestra. He went to parties; called me drunk at two in the morning, asking me why no one would dance with him.
Read the whole series. This is written so gently it aches.

Characters: Sherlock Holmes, John Watson, Mycroft Holmes, Greg Lestrade, Mike Stamford, Dimmock (Inspector), Mrs. Hudson
Summary: Sherlock and John, two singles who have failed to find love, have agreed to take the most radical step possible: they will marry a total stranger. The first time they meet is at their wedding ceremony. Will they have the courage to say "I do?" UPDATE: though this story is one that I loved writing, I cannot see myself completing the epilogue any time soon, if ever. After the show's finale, I don't feel connected to these characters anymore. My apologies to anyone who I've disappointed by not finishing the story. Just know that in my world, they're happy and in love.
Even though this says it's missing a chapter, all it's missing is the epilogue and the main story is finished. It's lovely and worth the read.

Summary: All John Watson wants is the feeling of a freshly waxed surfboard under his feet and the hot California sun baking down onto his back. To finally go pro in the newly formed world of professional surfing and leave the dark memories of his past behind him as he rips across the face of a towering blue barrel. To lounge beside the beach bonfire every evening with an ice cold beer tucked into the cool sand beside him and listen to Pink Floyd and the Doors while the saltwater dries in his sun bleached hair. That's all he wants, that is, until the hot young phenom taking Oahu and the Hawaiian shores by storm steps up next to him in the sand in the second round of the 1976 International Surf Competition.
I really wasn't into the idea of an American Surfer AU, especially because I lived on Maui for several years and was certain this was gonna get fucked up somehow. Boy, did this fic prove me wrong. Holy shit was this gorgeous.

Summary: "Afraid I'll embarrass you?" mocked Sherlock, looking up suddenly, his stare spearing Mycroft where he sat. Sherlock was too thin, too dirty - it was always a bad sign when he neglected personal hygiene - and he looked as if he hadn't slept for a week. "Oh, that ship sailed some years ago. You've been vocal enough about what you don't want. So tell me, brother dear, what is it you do want?" "You to leave me the fuck alone," said Sherlock venomously. Several heads turned. Mycroft ignored them. He took such incidents for granted when he was with Sherlock and had never cared what strangers thought - unless required to do so by his job.

AKA The Life And Times of Sebastian Moran, Bastard Extraordinaire. Spanning seven years and three continents, containing 496 uses of the word "fuck", multiple murders, several criminal acts, a couple of explosions, a large amount of violence and sex (often combined), an utter disregard of rules and morals, and somewhere in the middle of this something that almost looks like a happy and loving relationship.

Summary: Sherlock Holmes hates watching over Humans. Hates his job, taking care of the little village of Recheinbach. It's all boring. Boring and dull. All he has to do to keep himself busy is let it rain. Banished for years to the outside of his village due to an 'incident', the Water-Spirit dreads the fact that he is to choose a human bride upon his return as well as once again take up his duties. John doesn't expect much from his life. He lives in a small village, one that's been in a drought for over a hundred long years. A farmer's boy, the only way his family can expect to make any money is by selling his sister as a bride to the neighbouring villages. What they don't expect, is for John of all people to attract the attentions of a certain Spirit.

There were dark things in the dark waters, the whispers said. John never thought he would meet one of them. A dark, realistic Mer!lock AU.

Summary: When the dragons "came out" to the rest of the world, nobody expected the resulting War that broke out between Humans and Beasts. Both sides afraid and suspicious of each other, Humans drove Dragons into slavery, imprisoning them and turning their children into weapons for the military. Forced into hiding, many Dragons disguised themselves as Human and kept their secrets locked away, awaiting for the day when the royal blood line long since vanished would once again reappear and lay waste to the Humans that oppressed them.
John is a reluctant soldier in the Queen's Army, hoping to pay his medical school degree with three years of service. He's just been told to pick out a Dragon from the Kennels to train and serve beside in the War in Afghanistan. More than a little afraid and yet fascinated by the creatures, he just hopes he doesn't end up barbequed... Sherlock Holmes can't remember his past, but one thing is for certain: He is never going to become some Human's pet. However John Watson doesn't exactly seem like the typical Human. Can Dragon and Man really get along? Or even more, become friends?
I'm a writer myself so I'm not going to ever whine about a fic being unfinished. However I will state that when the Sherlock fandom lost Twistedthicket1 to whatever they are (hopefully) enjoying now, we lost an incredible writer. This is worth reading even unfinished. It gently takes the power imbalance and starts to explore it in ways that didn't make me queasy (and most such fics make me queasy).

Greg intimidates the Dom into never telling anyone else, but he knows it leaves Mycroft in a bind: the man has always presented as a non-dynamic, and to be outed as a sub would cause problems. It also means that Mycroft's down a trustworthy Dom. Greg comes to Mycroft with an offer: until Mycroft can vet someone better (who doesn’t break the law and doesn’t blab), he’ll be happy to help.
